"Mulberry in Winter was painted in Tumut which is a small country town located on the traditional lands of the Wiradjuri, Wolgalu, and Ngunnawal people, in the north-west foothills of the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales. In this backyard is an enormous mulberry tree which on this occasion looked leafless against the rising mist and winter sky. I enjoy the experience of painting from direct observation, and I am interested in capturing the variety of light effects on the world as I observe it." —Stephanie Monteith
