"Falling Roses" was created during a residency in Newfoundland, in a studio next to the Atlantic Ocean. There are echoes of traditional still life in the work paintings; yet reinterpreted in favor of atmosphere and emotion. Flowers started to emerge throughout Speir's figurative paintings and eventually became the subject.
