HYBYCOZO

HYBYCOZO is the collaborative studio of artists Serge Beaulieu and Yelena Filipchuk. Based in Los Angeles, their work consists of larger-than-life geometric sculptures, often with pattern and texture that draw on inspirations from mathematics, science, and natural phenomena. Typically illuminated, the work celebrates the inherent beauty of form and pattern found in nature and represents their ongoing journey in exploring the dimensions of geometry.

Ever since creating their first works in 2014, light and shadow have become a critical element of their practice as it expands their work beyond the physical medium. The name HYBYCOZO was the title of their first installation in 2014, and they continue to create together under this guise.

In 2023, The Crystal Bridges Museum of American art commissioned “Congruence” for their outdoor collection. The same year, the Ulrich Museum of Art acquired “Stratosphere”. Alongside “Stratum” in Ankara Turkey for the State Department’s art in embassies program, their work is now presented alongside that of James Turrell, Buckminster Fuller, Leo Villareal, Andy Goldsworthy, and Alice Aycock. In the spring of 2024, their biggest installation to date opened alongside Bruce Munro’s “Field of Light” at Sensorio in California, while later in 2024 they opened a solo exhibition at the prestigious Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix, AZ. In November 2024, they debuted a site-specific artwork, “Glacial Light”, at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, MI.

HYBYCOZO has permanent public artworks in Dubai, Istanbul, Las Vegas, Sacramento, New Zealand, and the San Francisco Bay Area. Their work has been shown globally in Singapore, London, Brazil, Australia, and Canada. They have exhibited with renowned institutions including The Smithsonian, The Cincinnati Museum of Art, The Oakland Museum of California, The Ulrich Museum of Art, Crystal Bridges, and The Sharjah Museum of Art in the UAE. From 2014 to 2022, they also presented work at Burning Man—most notably in 2019, when they became the first artists selected to design the central man pavilion.
